Tools
Google Analytics
www.google.com/analytics/
A free web based application which presents large amounts of data on traffic to your website.
I set up a google analytics account, if one doesn't exist, for all websites I create and provide an introduction to the tool.
At the basic level this is an invaluable tool showing:
- Visitors numbers
- Geographic location of visitors
- Sources of traffic
- Sources of keywords
However, at a more advanced levels this tool can provide ROI data, evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and can be used to compare split testing results.
Feedburner
www.feedburner.google.com
A free service offered by google to monitor the number of subscribers to your RSS feed/s. When setting up RSS feeds I amalgamate feeds, run them through feed burner and then forward them to a "feeds" sub domain of the website. The benefits of this are that subscriber numbers are monitored and the RSS feed URL is from the organisation's website.
Google Alerts
www.google.com/alerts
A free service that notifies you when google's crawlers pick up on new information related to your chosen keywords, such as your organisation name. This allows you to monitor comments about your company, and when new pages to your website are referenced.
